Carter Hoffmann’s GardenChef

What if you could grow vegetables 365 days a year right in your own kitchen? With GardenChef by Carter Hoffmann, not only can you do just that, but you can do it fast and easily —all while adding a bit of flare to your kitchen.

The cabinets allow you to control the vegetables you want to grow, creating organic food that is sustainable and locally grown. It also lets you serve veggies straight from the source, rather than waiting for shipments that often cause food to lose its nutrition.

It works by implementing high output growing lights that replicate sun rays and distribute light evenly, an automatic watering system that can be filled manually or connected to a city waterline, different growing zones to keep veggies separate, and a fully automated growing system that allows the user to program light, air, and water to their specific needs. All of these specifications are listed on a touchpad, with 40 selections for commonly used plants and vegetables and the ability to customize your own controls.

And just like the inner workings, the outside of the GardenChef is high-tech as well. Users can pick between a two- or one- door system, or under the counter sizes, all coming in full stainless steel construction with tempered glass doors to showcase the plants living inside. Chefs and kitchen staff can monitor the plants easily though the glass doors, allowing for less waste and an increase in production savings.

So how does it work? Planting and growing in the GardenChef is easier than planting and growing in your own backyard. Simply sow your seeds of choice in 10’’x20’’ garden flats with soil or hydroponic media, cover the trays and place them in the GardenChef. From there, you set the growing cycle for each plant, wait for the seeds to sprout and grow until you’re ready to serve on a plate.

Growing organic and local vegetables in your own kitchen is not only a great practice for nutrition and food quality, but it can also save your kitchen a ton of money. Ordering micro greens wholesale can cost a restaurant $45 per flat, but when you grow your own vegetables in the GardenChef, the average cost of a flat is $4.75—an 80 percent savings!
